Faneca Disappointed To Leave Steelers

Not many athletes in this day and age spend their entire careers with one team and in one city, Alan Faneca wanted to do just that. But, after a decade with the Steelers, Faneca is going to take his skills to another team.

The Steelers would love to have Faneca for the rest of his career at left guard, but the salary cap and his financial demands have made that impossible.

It is time for Alan Faneca to reflect and what better place to do that than Hawaii. He spends a lot of time talking with his family about where he'll play next because he has ruled out a return to Pittsburgh.

"It's disappointing I guess," Faneca said. "There are lots of words you could use, bittersweet, sad, you know everything has to come to an end I guess and at the end of the day there are not too many guys in this league that get to play their entire career from start to finish in one spot."

Faneca considers himself to be one of the lucky ones to get to spend an entire decade in one area.

Now the Steelers will be moving on without him. Faneca's leverage though is extremely high. He might be the best available at his position and teams will pay the price.

He is not limiting his choices and he will look at all options and he says he has a lot left in his tank.

"I got some years left in me, you know I think five is a nice good number, that's a good number to shoot for," Faneca said. "I think everybody in the league, I've talked to a bunch of guys and everybody seems to have the same story, if I could just get to 10."

Faneca had a few things to say to the people of Pittsburgh before he says good bye.

"I think first and foremost I'd like to thank the fans, the Steeler nation, I mean The Steeler nation is so big, it's bigger than Pittsburgh," Faneca said. "It's been a great time in Pittsburgh and my family and I, we love our time there, and we're going to miss it. It's always going to be a part of home."
